Featured photographer: David Levine

David didn’t have a biography, so requested that we use this as written about him by Boy George. If you would like to see his work, you can find it here

‘In an age where everyone is a paparazzo, it’s becoming increasingly difficult for any photographer to surprise us. Like Mick Rock, David Levine is one of those rare photographers whose work stands out, he was in the right place at the right time and made it count. He’s written his work into history’.

He was there when Iggy Pop was strutting the stage in fishnets and at the birth of my band Culture Club. To say that David and I have been on quite a journey together is an understatement! I first met David because he had photographed a number of my favourite artists and bands and I arranged for him to photograph Culture Club. Over a number of years David was our in-house photographer and we were his muses. His iconic shot for the sleeve of our multi-platinum selling single Karma Chameleon will be familiar to millions. To this day, the photograph he took of me in a beige turban in Madrid remains one of my most favourite shots. David was able to create real beauty through his use of light and with far less trickery than is common these days. Looking at his body of work, even I was amazed by just how many iconic people David has captured on film. Whether in the studio or in the pit of a live gig, David’s skill shines through and this is a collection that any photographer would be proud of!’.
