Many of us photograph out on the streets of cities and towns, but how many of us know what the law is concerning such things? If we are approached when shooting outside a building, or on the street, should we immediately put our hands up, apologise and move on? Or do we actually have a right to photograph there?

According to the Metropolitan police members of the public can film and photograph in public places without a permit, but what is therefore defined as a public place? Some areas are private property but also a public space (that’s not confusing at all!)
